The National Defence Academy (NDA) is India’s premier defence training academy, where young candidates have been trained to become officers since 1954:

NDA Exam -Conducted by UPSC

NDA = Direct path to become an officer in the Indian Armed ForcesConducted by the Union Public Service Commission

  • Held twice a year (April & September)

Selection Exam & Age

  • Written Exam → 900 Marks

    • Maths: 300

    • GAT: 600

  • SSB Interview → 900 Marks
    👉 Total = 1800 Marks

  • Age: 16.5 to 19.5 years

  • Only unmarried candidates

  • Education:

    • Army: 12th pass (any stream)

    • Navy/Air Force: 12th with Physics + Maths

  • Class 12 appearing students can apply

Training-

  • NDA Training (3 Years)

    • Academic + Physical training (6 terms)

  • Degree Awarded (via JNU)

  • Specialized Training (1 Year)

    • Army → Indian Military Academy

    • Navy → Indian Naval Academy

    • Air Force → Air Force Academy

    • Stipend during training: ₹56,100/month

    • Commissioned as:

      • Army → Lieutenant

      • Navy → Sub Lieutenant

      • Air Force → Flying Officer
