JNV Admission Process

Admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas is conducted through a competitive entrance examination known as the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST), which is designed and administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Class 6 Admission Process

  • Must be a resident of the same district

  • Must have studied Classes 3, 4, and 5 in the same district

  • Cannot apply twice or repeat

  • 75% seats are reserved for rural students

  • Rural status based on school location (Class 3–5)

  • No second attempt allowed

  • Aadhaar required for benefits (or enrolment needed)

    Class 9 Admission Process

    (Lateral Entry Selection Test (LEST))

    Online Registration: Candidates must apply online through the official Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) portal. For the 2026-27 session, the registration window typically opens in July and closes by late October.

  • Current Grade: The student must be studying in Class 8 in a government or government-recognised school during the current academic year.

  • Residency: Candidates must apply in the same district where they are studying and where the JNV is located.

  • Age Limit: For the 2026-27 session, candidates must have been born between 1st May 2011 and 31st July 2013 (both days inclusive).

  • Previous Schooling: Only students from recognised schools are eligible; repeaters (those who have already passed Class 9 or 10) are not eligible to apply.
